Te Protejo’s Research Division is driving a paradigm shift in science and education by promoting the replacement of animals with more relevant, innovative, and ethical methods. To this end, it raises awareness of these methods and strengthens the ecosystem of alternative methods in Latin America. It also participates in technical forums such as the Animal Bioethics Committee in Chile, contributing to the discussion and promoting improvements to current standards.
Map of Laboratories
The Te Protejo laboratory map is a tool that helps identify and highlight facilities in Latin America that develop and apply alternative methods to animal testing. Based on a process of research and direct engagement with the scientific community, this resource compiles up-to-date information on laboratories that use in vitro and in silico approaches, as well as other innovative techniques.
Organized into different categories, the map makes it easier to find alternatives for both the cosmetics industry and other areas of research, helping to dispel the perception that there are no options other than animal testing. In addition, it fosters connections among stakeholders in the scientific community and encourages the adoption of more ethical, evidence-based practices.

Through its Research division, Te Protejo carries out activities aimed at raising awareness about the reality of animals used in various scientific contexts, fostering greater empathy and understanding toward them. Through outreach efforts and educational content, these initiatives seek to challenge entrenched perceptions and highlight information about the behavior, abilities, and well-being of different species, contributing to a more informed and respectful conversation. Since these initiatives take place in both digital environments and public spaces, they bring information to new audiences, strengthening ties with the community and promoting greater awareness of the importance of moving toward practices that respect all living beings.
The Animal Bioethics Committee (CBA) is a body established by Law 20,380 and serves as a key forum for the analysis and discussion of ethical issues related to the use of animals in research in Chile. Te Protejo was elected to represent animal protection organizations in this forum and helps raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare and promote the incorporation of ethical principles into scientific decision-making.
In this context, the committee’s work focuses on developing and reviewing instruments such as the regulations on experimentation on live animals, as well as creating opportunities for consultation and technical discussion. Active participation in this forum helps improve current standards and move toward more robust regulatory frameworks that incorporate animal welfare and promote more responsible practices in experimentation.
